Our Classes

We offer a wide range of classes for students aged 2 years through to 18 years. Our Group classes are available in Singing, Dance, Acting, Musical Theatre, Acrobatics and TV & Camera and cater for the recreational student as well as students wishing to pursue a career in the Performing Arts. We have had students successfully audition for further studies at highly regarded institutions such as VCA, WAAPA, Ev & Bow, ED5 and NIDA.

Acrobatics

Students learn basic acrobatic and tumbling skills such as forward rolls, backward rolls, handstands and walkovers before progressing onto more difficult tricks such as baranis and flips. It is a great class to develop flexibility, strength and agility which compliments dance training. Students progress at their own pace. Classes are graded according to the students level and experience.

Acting

These classes are designed to teach students the craft of Acting. They are a great way to build confidence and explore creativity in a safe and fun environment. Students work on improvisation exercises and scripts and perform regularly in front of the class, which provides the invaluable opportunity to become comfortable in front of an audience.

Ballet

We offer both recreational and Graded RAD Ballet Classes at TPS. The RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) Ballet syllabus is followed at TPS. RAD Ballet is widely recognised and highly regarded worldwide. Ballet forms an integral part of a dancer’s training and is the most important style to maintain throughout a student’s development. Any student that shows a keen interest and focus in other areas of dance are strongly advised to take Ballet classes to support their training.
In Intermediate Foundation level, Pointe work forms part of the grade. Once the teachers believe students are ready to progress to Pointe work, they must be assessed by our physiotherapist at Inspired Physiotherapy for clearance. Students may do the Pointe component of the class in flat shoes if they wish, however they will not be able to sit for their exam until they are on Pointe.
Recreational Ballet classes offer students the opportunity to enjoy Ballet whilst learning the fundamentals in a fun and supportive environment with students of a similar age. The class program will be designed for the level of the students in the class and is suitable for beginners or students that wish to maintain their Ballet training to support their other dance classes.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a broad style of dance that combines urban influences and features, such as popping, locking, breaking and tutting. These classes are suitable for all students regardless of former dance training. We offer Boys Only classes for Boys Year 2 – Year 8 to help them explore dance at a pace that is comfortable for them to do with confidence.

Jazz

In Jazz, students learn a mixture of technique and choreography. It is strongly recommended that all students study Ballet in conjunction with their Jazz classes, in order to support their development and give them the strength and flexibility required to perform the increasingly demanding skills in their class.
Senior Jazz is of an Intermediate/Advanced level and not suitable for beginner dancers.

Lyrical / Contemporary

Students in this class will learn a variety of techniques applicable to both Lyrical and Contemporary dance. Lyrical is characterised by fluidity and grace and dancers learn to use expressiveness to convey the lyrics of the music whilst Contemporary is based on techniques developed by the Modern Dance pioneers of the 20th Century.
As this stream requires a solid technical base, it is highly recommended that students also study Ballet at TPS or have had previous Ballet training.

Musical Theatre

Our Musical Theatre classes consist of the study of three areas of Performing Arts – Acting, Singing and Dance and have proven to be one of our most popular classes. Students learn from different tutors, who are all specialists in their respective discipline, and work collaboratively to prepare for all musical theatre performances.

Pre-School Programs (Ready Set Dance / Ready Set Ballet)

READY SET DANCE and READY SET BALLET are performing arts programs designed specifically for Pre-Schoolers. Through exercises such as balancing bean bags, working as a team with the parachute, singing on the microphone, twirling ribbons, flying with feathers and playing musical instruments, the classes extend beyond dance to develop skills such a teamwork and confidence. The Award winning program is being developed into a TV program on Nick Jnr due to air in 2019. The lovable characters of Twirl and Freeze inspire our TPS Pre-Schoolers as they embark on their performing arts journey. READY SET DANCE and READY SET BALLET have been developed using the knowledge of successful dance teachers, who have been running classes for this age group for over thirty years. Targeting ages two to five years, the syllabus is perfect for both boys and girls in this foundational level of training.

Singing

Our Singing classes introduce students to basic singing technique whilst exploring songs from various genres including musical theatre and pop. Students wishing to develop a solid singing technique are encouraged to take private singing lessons.

Tap

In Tap, students learn a mixture of technique and choreography. There is a strong emphasis on repetition with set exercises performed each lesson, as Students aim to perfect both the rhythmical and technical components of the steps. The difficulty of these steps increases throughout the term as students’ progress. A variety of Tap styles will be explored over the course of the year. We follow the TapAtak-Oz Syllabus in our Tap classes.

TV & Camera

Our TV & Camera classes are designed to provide you with a basic acting technique whilst giving you the opportunity to explore and develop the skills and techniques required to work with cameras – both in a professional casting and on a TV / Film set. You will learn the difference between acting for stage and acting for TV / Film. Topics covered include: camera techniques, industry terminology, television commercials, casting etiquette, personal ID’s, and script work. Work is filmed and provided to students weekly so that they can review their work.

Private Tuition
