A class for 3 - 5 year olds that integrates Jazz, Tap and Ballet dance styles as well as learning skills in Acting and Singing. A great introduction to the performing arts.
A class designed for school aged children in Kindergarten or Year 1 as a stepping stone from the Broadway Babies Class into mainstream classes. It consists of Tap, Jazz and Ballet components giving students a sound base of skills required to advance into the Junior age group. It is recommended that students of this age complete at least one year of this class before progressing into the Junior Age group.
Jazz (Junior, Intermediate, Pre-Intermediate and Senior)
Students learn a mixture of technique and choreography in this class. Students learn a variety of Jazz styles through class work ranging from Musical Theatre style Jazz to more Commercial Jazz. All students are strongly recommended to study Ballet in conjunction with this class in order to progress faster and have the strength and flexibility to perform the physically demanding class work.
Tap (Junior, Intermediate, Pre-Intermediate and Senior)
Students learn technique and choreography in Tap class. There is a strong emphasis on repetition with set exercises performed each lesson as students aim to perfect both the rhythmical and technical components of the steps. The difficulty of these steps increase throughout the term as students' progress.
Ballet (Junior, Intermediate, Pre-Intermediate and Senior)
Ballet is the most important dance style for serious dance students to learn. It helps the students develop the necessary musculature and technical facility to perform the steps required in other forms of dance such as Jazz and Contemporary. We teach a Ballet program that combines the key learnings from syllabuses such as RAD and Cechetti with our own exercises to enhance student knowledge and development. Students that are in Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate Ballet are required to participate in 2 Ballet classes per week. It is also highly recommended for Junior Students to learn 2 classes per week.
Hip Hop dance is broad style of dance combining urban dance influences and features such popping, locking, breaking and tutting. Students are taught a range of skills in this class whilst developing confidence to perform solo freestyle combinations. It is suitable for all students regardless of former dance training. Boys who are 11 - 18 years are to join the Boys Only Class unless they are combining Hip Hop with additional dance training such as Jazz or Ballet.
Intermediate & Senior Stretch
This is a class designed to complement the training of students that are studying jazz, ballet and contemporary. The drills and exercises in this class improve stamina, strength and flexibility and promote a balanced body. It is strongly recommended for students serious about their development.
Contemporary dance incorporates key techniques from both classical and modern dance. It requires a strong technical base and therefore is limited to students that are studying Ballet at TPS. Students must learn Ballet to enrol in this class.
Turns, Leaps & Jumps
This class is for Intermediate and Senior Jazz students to develop skills and technique in these important areas of Jazz. It is designed to complement Jazz classes and to challenge students to learn and perfect new skills.
